Cartilage defects are found in ~60% of knee arthroscopies, representing 750,000 potential cartilage repair procedures annually.^2,3 In addition to these arthroscopically diagnosed lesions, peer-reviewed publications have estimated that greater than 3 million people in the US are living in the “treatment gap,” not currently addressed by existing biologic therapies and definitive total joint replacement.⁴
