The Material Behind the Motion

HYALEX Hydrosurf Materials Platform
HYALEX Hydrosurf™ Bearing Material is a transformational orthopaedic material engineered to overcome the well‑known limitations of polyethylene, titanium, cobalt chrome, and hydrogel implants.
Invented at the Stanford Biodesign Lab, HYALEX Hydrosurf Material is uniquely formulated to replicate the material stiffness, lubrication behavior, and ultra‑low coefficient of friction of healthy hyaline cartilage.
Key Material Advantages
- Exceptional wear and oxidation resistance vs. HXLPE
- Interpenetrating polymer network that hydrates via ionic hydration
- Weeping lubrication mechanism that mimics natural cartilage under load
- Physiologically equilibrated at manufacture to achieve ionic composition similar to that of a healthy joint environment
HYALEX Hydrosurf Bearing Material most closely replicates the properties of native cartilage over traditional orthopaedic materials.
HYALEX Hydrosurf Material most closely replicates the critical material properties of natural hyaline cartilage vs. traditional orthopaedic materials1.
